Have you ever wondered how much time you spend collaborating in M365 and which tools you spend most time on?
In addition to our Collaboration Habits (read Introduction to the Collaboration Habits) Time spent in M365 provides a unique perspective on how much time you spend on:
- Sending and reading email
- Participating in meetings/calls in Teams, as well as sending chat or channel messages
- Posting, reading and reacting to messages on Viva Engage
- Working on files in SharePoint/OneDrive
It is easy to determine how much time is spent in meetings and calls as you can just count the actual minutes. For anything else we have to convert an activity into time. This will never be a perfect representation of reality, but will have to be an estimation. To estimate time spent we use the following rules:
- Send Email = 5 minutes
- Read Email = 3 minutes
Teams
- Send Chat = 30 seconds
- Post Channel Message = 2 minutes
- Meetings and Calls = Actual duration (no conversation needed)
Files and Pages
- Open/Edit OneDrive file = 10 minutes
- Open/Edit SharePoint file = 10 minutes
- Access SharePoint page = 1 minute
Viva Engage
- Write message (posts and replies) = 3 minutes
- Read message = 1 minutes
- React to message = 12 seconds
Based on these rules we estimate how much time you have spent on the various M365 collaboration tools, and we show you the proportional distribution of that time between them.
