Default setting
The underlying data SWOOP captures is stored in UTC. When a person accesses SWOOP, it will automatically convert the data in the dashboards to reflect the person's time zone. For example, let's say that your organisation is located in France and all of your employees are active during normal working hours (Central European Time). You look at a report in SWOOP which shows activity by time, and here you can see that people are active between 8am and 5pm CET.
If you accessed the same report during a work trip to New York and your computer is set to Eastern Standard Time, then the reports will show that people are most active between 3am and 12pm EST.
In the footer of SWOOP you can see which time zone the data is being used. In the example below, the time zone is GMT+11:
Changing the default setting
In some situations, it can be beneficial to lock the time zone. To reduce the time it takes to calculate the insights shown on the dashboard SWOOP will always store calculations for potential reuse. Given that calculations can not be reused across time zones there can potentially be a benefit in locking the time zone such that the calculations can be reused. Therefore it is possible to lock the dashboard to anywhere from 1-3 time zones which you can set (go to Admin / Dashboard):
If you set a single time zone it means that SWOOP for every person who accesses will ignore the person's time zone setting and instead use the one you have set. If you set 2 or 3 different time zones SWOOP will use the option which is closest to the time zone the person is in.
