In the Entry/Exit report in SWOOP for SharePoint we show the pages that either start or finish a visitors' sessions of activity.
If a visitor to the intranet undertook a visit that went Homepage > HR > Annual Leave > HR > Job Descriptions > HR then
- Homepage would be the entry page. It would be counted as one visit and one visitor.
- HR would be the exit page. For the exit report it would count as one visit and one visitor.
The pages viewed between the entry and exit are not counted for the Entry/Exit report, but the first time each page is viewed it would be logged for the overall page report as a visit.
Knowing which pages visitors start their intranet visit on allows you to see which content is setting the tone for visitors. It will also help to indicate if links directly to pages or news items from other channels are drawing people into the intranet.
Knowing which pages are most often the last page of a visit can show if there are any particular pages that might not be giving visitors links to the other pages they need.
Where a homepage is set as the default browser page, a high level of exits on the homepage would suggest people are not exploring the intranet, but are instead going to external pages such as an internet search.
