What is Community Growth?
Communities are the heart of any enterprise social network (ESN). From initial launch, staff should be encouraged to start groups they see value in. Not all will survive, but a key indicator of ESN success is the growth in community activity overall. The Community Growth report is available at the Enterprise level. It monitors the growth in classes of communities i.e. internal communities; public and private and external communities; public and private. It is common for organisations to focus initially on internal communities, before starting to accommodate external communities. Some organisations have a strategy to maximise the use of public communities, in the name of increasing transparency. This report can help monitor progress on a strategy like this.
How to use Community Growth
ESNs have been around for more than a decade. Some SWOOP clients have been using ESNs at some level of activity for up to 10 years now. We have yet to find an organisation that is not still looking to grow its ESN usage. We think we are still a long way from organisations saying they are happy with their current levels of activity. Much of the value available from ESNs is still to be realised by the majority of organisations. Community growth across the enterprise is a good quick indicator of whether growth is still happening and where.
