What is the Influential People report?
An important characteristic of Workplace networks is some individuals are more important to the performance of the network than others. Networks that have just a few key influencers are at risk if one or more were to leave the network. The Influential People report shows a list of the top 10 users on your network who have engaged with the highest number of unique users. For those with additional SWOOP admin permissions, you will also have the ability to show your top 20, 30, 40 etc top influencers.
So, how do you find out if your group is susceptible to influencer risk?
The ‘Influencer Risk Score’ at the bottom of the Influential People report looks at the degree of drop off from the most influential member and those lower down on the list. The Influencer Risk Score reflects the % drop-off. The lower the risk, the better.
How to use the Influential People report
You can refer to the Influential People report to find who your Workplace collaboration champions are. Amongst the names of your influential people, it's ideal if you can see a mix of the following:
- Leaders across the business
- Employees across a diverse range of business segments. Eg) Not having one single department or location dominate the list
- Starting to see internal communicators dropping off the list. You may see group managers and comms staff appearing in this list by default. The more you drop back however, means your network is starting to sustain itself
What we have ascertained from our online networking studies is that online groups are much more susceptible to key player risk than off-line groups/networks. This may potentially be attributed to an existing ‘digital divide’, whereby only a proportion of group members choose to be active online.
If your group/network has a high influencer risk score, it is important to address this by encouraging more members to act as hubs in the network, by actively connecting others. If you notice
that selected individuals are doing all the ‘work’ in keeping the group active and vibrant, start trying to lend a hand. If you are one of the ‘selected few’ key players, try and encourage others to join you and become more active in connecting others. Try to delegate group activities to get others more involved. Perhaps ask others to host online events or initiatives as a way of broadening the group leadership responsibilities and increasing the visibility of others.
